After the 2025 US Operations Summit, it’s clear that operations play an increasingly vital role in today’s economic landscape. Back to the office? 💻🏡 Many people find working from home so attractive that they would be happy if they only rarely had to return to the office. Executives and HR managers have been addressing these preferences, and will need to continue doing so in the future. But how, exactly? What makes sense here? Which models can managers use to retain their employees and how can they recruit new staff? Zurich Insurance Germany has been successful with its new “FlexWork 2.0” model, which defines three categories that give employees different levels of flexibility in selecting their place of work. The “FixOffice” category requires its members to spend 100% of their contractual working time at fixed work stations on company premises. In the “HomeOffice” category, employees may work from home up to three days a week, and spend the other two days at the company. The “FlexOffice” category, which covers most of Zurich’s workforce, offers the greatest flexibility. Under “FlexOffice” rules, the place of work is secondary to the task. Dr. Carsten Schildknecht , CEO of Zurich Gruppe Deutschland, describes his company’s intentions as follows: “FlexWork 2.0 is an expression of the high level of trust we place in our employees. We enable freedom in choosing work locations, yet we also make it clear that for us as a company, it’s important to ensure direct contact with customers and partners as well as interpersonal relations among co-workers and on teams.” Zurich’s example shows that new guidelines on collaborative work also require new ways of thinking. According to Dr. Wolfgang Freibichler , Partner at Porsche Consulting, roles, tasks, and actions are changing for managers on all levels. The main task here is to steer — within the guardrails or guidelines that every company should be setting up within its models for collaboration. Meet Marcel Geers, Senior Manager in our Life Science team. After an internship at a global strategy consultancy, I knew consulting was the right path for me. I took the advice from a friend to start as an intern at Porsche Consulting, which changed my career. From day one, I was impressed by the company culture, the depth of expertise, and the opportunity to make a real impact. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this was the place where I wanted to build my career.  ▶️What inspires you and when do you have your best ideas? I get my inspiration mainly from two different things: Firstly, the limitless opportunities to learn, explore new ideas, and deepen my understanding of how things work. Secondly, our day-to-day business: overcoming highly complex challenges, whether in consulting projects or during my volunteer work at German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) in critical emergency situations. I have my best ideas through engaging discussions with people who bring different perspectives. This has made me a strong believer in diversity and teamwork for many years. ▶️How would you summarize your time with us in 3 words?  💡Personal development: Working here has continuously pushed me to tackle problems, think outside the box, and grow both professionally and personally.  🚀Impact: I always valued the opportunity to strategically & pragmatically make a tangible and measurable impact. 🤝Team: Connecting with colleagues, sharing successes from our projects, and cheering on our collective achievements create lasting memories. ▶️How do you spend your weekends? I prefer a mix of relaxation, hands-on work, and time with friends. Living in a small city provides a great contrast to the fast-paced international business world. I often meet my childhood friends, volunteer at THW, and work on expanding my real estate businesses. Last weekend, we kicked off this year’s recruiting event season with a special highlight: the BDSU Congress in Hanover! 🌟   In line with the event motto „Create Impact!“, our Porsche Consulting team – Marius, Florian, Valentina, Jean Marc and Stephanie – hosted various activities ranging from workshops to a business dinner.
